In my 25-plus years as a criminal defense attorney, I have successfully defended dozens of people in the Los Angeles area accused of being gang members and facing charges such as murder, drug charges, gun charges, robbery and prostitution.

Gang Cases Are Especially Tough to Defend

The important thing to realize is that when you are accused of being a gang member and you’re in the court room, people hate you. The jury looks at you and all they see is a gang member.

My job is to make them judge the facts of the case, not just the fact that you may be involved with a gang. By presenting background information, character letters and testimonials from loved ones, I show the jury the whole picture of the defendant.

Often, people who end up in gangs come from troubled families, or felt like they had to join a gang because their friends did, or because they were scared of someone and needed protection.

It’s too easy to say, “Everyone accused of being a gang member is bad.”

But that’s not fair, and it’s not true.

I Know How To Defend You

By showing that the defendant was in the wrong place at the wrong time, that he didn’t want to commit a crime, by showing his background and why he was with those people at the time of the crime, I can often get the judge and jury to show leniency to my clients.

These are usually good young people who got caught up in something they didn’t really understand. They need help so they can get back on track and go on to lead a productive life. Locking them up for years isn’t the answer.

I believe my approach to defending clients accused of gang crimes sets me apart from other lawyers. Public defenders don’t have the time or energy to give your case the attention it deserves. The prosecutor just wants to see you behind bars, so he can say that the “problem” is solved. And many private attorneys are scared to have gang members as clients.
